Your best friend’s teeth have a lot of work to do as they use their mouths for more than just eating! Dogs use their teeth to play, explore and taste their surroundings so, if your dog’s teeth aren’t properly cared for it can start to cause problems.

Just like their Mums’ and Dads’, if your dog’s teeth are not regularly cleaned it can lead to a build up of plaque which will, over time, turn into tartar. This has a solid, brown, gritty look and feel and can then lead to inflammation and tenderness of the gums making it uncomfortable for them to eat. This build up can also go on to cause gingivitis and gum disease.

How to Keep Your Dogs’ Teeth Clean and Maintain Doggy Dental Health

As with most things in life prevention is better than cure. Maintaining your best friends’ dental health and keeping their teeth and gums in tip top condition can be done in a number of ways and is usually best managed using a combination of different methods which include a good diet, daily tooth brushing at home and of course our Ultrasonic Tooth Brushing service.

We recommend this service for any dog that is starting to get a build up of plaque and will ideally be done on a regular basis. In our experience over 90% of dogs are receptive to tooth brushing and we see some great results. We will always complete a pre-service assessment and if we feel that the plaque and tartar build up is too sever we will of course advise you of this fact and recommend a veterinary de-scale. Once done we can then help you keep on top of your dogs’ dental health to avoid future build ups.

Of course results vary depending on the condition of your dogs dental health and often several sessions are required to remove the historical layers of plaque and tartar but here’s a photo of Milo’s teeth before and after his very first session, Milo is a 2 year old Springer Spaniel.
